Win, win, win! Scoring a hat-trick at the library.

Lady luck must have been smiling down at me this week as a quick nip around Haverfordwest library had me whisperwhooping (totally a word) as I dug up three absolute gems from their shelves.

I’ve been longing to get my mitts on a copy of Diane Atkinson’s Rise Up Women! The Remarkable Lives of the Suffragettes ever since reading Liz’s review not long ago. To find a copy withing 30 seconds of heading through the doors felt like Christmas. It’s quite a hefty tome, so I shall have to commit some serious afternoon in bed with tea and toast reading time to it to do it justice.

I was also really chuffed to be the first to bag the brand new copy of Meena Kandasamy’s When I Hit You which made it onto the shortlist for the Women’s Prize for Fiction. All the reviews I’ve read or heard have been glowing so I have high expectations.

To top it all, I found a copy of our next book group pick, The Lie of the Land by Amanda Craig. This means I can dive straight in without waiting for the postman to get a wiggle on, and I’ve saved a bit of cash – all the more to spend on another book instead – boom!
