Oops! I did it again
A couple of weekends ago I headed off for a much looked forward to reunion with some old friends from my Brighton book group. I’m still a member, reading the monthly book choices and exchanging thoughts and opinions on books via email, even though I left Brighton for West Wales a decade ago. Admittedly, I’ve taken a bit of a sabbatical for most of this year due to my decision not to buy any new books this year. However, I was really excited to see them and have a good catch up.
As fellow Brighton bookgroup member and close friend Lizzie has recently moved back to her home town, West Kirby, on the Wirral, we met up there. I’ve never been to Liverpool or its environs before so I was quite keen to have a nose around. As it was only a fleeting visit, we didn’t have time to take a grand tour of the city, but we did have a bracing walk up the hill and around the marina, so I got to enjoy views of Liverpool from a distance.
As Lizzie had been raving about the multitude of fabulous charity shops in West Kirby, we spent the morning mooching around those, and that’s where I fell into a fog and found myself an hour or so later with a bag full of books – oops!
What a fabulous haul! Even though I fell off the no-book-buying wagon the other week, I had intended carry on resisting the urge to splurge, but these were too good to resist, and, well, I was on holiday, so I have no guilt whatsoever. My bargains didn’t stop with the books either, as I also happened to pick up a whole stack of Midwinter Stylecraft ‘Red Domino’ plates to add to my collection. They’re pretty hard to come by nowadays, so I was especially pleased to pick these up for a song. With the company of old friends, some fine walking and a lot of bargain-hunting thrown in, all in all, it was a fabulous weekend.
