Half Price Sale in the Oxfam Bookshop – Bring a Wheel-barrow!
Oh man! I have had such a magnificent haul in the Haverfordwest Oxfam Bookshop.
There’s something soul-restoring about secondhand book-buying. It has all the benefits of retail therapy but without the subsequent emptiness and self-disgust. Rather, it feels like a philanthropic gesture, giving these abandoned books a home, offering love, care and attention to as many as I can find shelf-room for.
Due to my eccentric shelving policy I now keep a little notebook with my books listed by author and title to make sure I don’t keep buying copies of the same book. Admittedly, I do get some funny looks, but just yesterday, it saved me from several multiple purchases, and bagged me copies of Homer’s ‘The Odyssey‘ and ‘The Iliad’, both of which I was wrongly convinced I already owned.
Anyway, here’s my swag!
